Military gets rare commendation in strides against terrorism

Lagos - The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) has, in a rare development, lauded the military for its recent success against the Boko Haram terrorists.
In a statement, Rivers APC Chairman, Dr Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said the breakthroughs in the fight against the Islamic militant sect bringing back memories of the feats that made them the
best army in Africa in past year.
The army, which has over the years battled the insurgency, has in recent days reported significant progress in the North Eastern parts of the country where the terrorists have wrecked havoc.

“If not for the poor leadership by the People’s Democratic Party regime the Boko Haram would have been history long before now,” Ikanya claimed in a statement from Port Harcourt.
The insurgency perpetrated by the Boko Haram terror has claimed thousands of lives and displaced more than 1 million civilians.
Until the recent reports suggesting the army defeating the insurgents, initiatives by local forces and the intervention of some foreign intervention had not yielded fruit.
President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has come under criticism for its handling of the crisis, most prominently his failure to meet families of the more than 200 schoolgirls militants abducted from Chibok in the Borno State.
On the other hand, his PDP party has cited APC for complicity in the terror for public utterances doubting the army’s capability.
